Welcome to Newport, Washington
› City Hall built circa 1913
The City of Newport, with a population of 2150, is located on the Washington/Idaho border just west of the Pend Oreille River. With a comfortable elevation of 2,160 feet, Newport is a city that provides a unique experience of four distinct seasons.
We are less than an hour's drive north of Spokane, which has an International airport for easy access to our city. From Spokane you can travel through Newport to ski resorts in both the U.S. and Canadian Rockies. Summers present an enjoyable scenic drive through rugged mountains and along pristine rivers. One can see an abundance of wildlife including deer, elk and moose along with wild birds including pheasants, turkeys, and at the right time of the year bald eagles.
Due to the extreme cold weather, there have been multiple water pipes freezing throughout the City of Newport.
We are asking that you please run your water at a slight trickle to avoid any frozen pipes and loss of water at this time.
Should you have a water overage in the Spring, above your normal winter average, the City Council on 1/17/2017 has authorized waiving the overage charges for this situation during this extreme cold time.
We would appreciate your cooperation regarding this matter. Thank you.
The later opening will allow staff to do banking and daily
financial balancing before opening for the public. We will still be available
for telephone calls after 8 am at
200 S. Washington Avenue, Newport, WA 99156
